Keep Your Different

The world molds us, it is a big part of our formation as adults, as citizens, as human beings. Often we set aside our instinct; the part of our being that improvises, that is ever spontaneous and free and we call this moment in our lives- "growing up"

We concern ourselves with matters that although important, are not the ones that make us who we truly are. We strive for perfection, for control, for absolute knowledge, when all of these are unattainable

Perfection is unattainable

In the long run, it becomes a childlike and naive sentiment. The crushing of our idealist clusters of thought and influence allow us to be free from the concept of perfection. For this reason, I want to encourage you to be and keep your different that is everything BUT perfect. Because the conundrums of life eventually lead us to this undeniable truth, the truth that we are unique and this uniqueness is worthy of protection from the prisons of this professional world that strives for absolute perfection in every sense. I am not against striving for excellence; excellence emerges from authenticity and hard work- to be authentic, one must be unique.

Hold on to Principle rather than Control

As we grow, the adult world becomes a serious thing to deal with. We work hard to maintain control of not only ourselves but everyone else around us.

The key, in my opinion, to create a life where control is no longer a reason for anxiety and much less a necessary thing, one must simply choose correctly. Choose based on principles you believe in. The people I trust with more than my life, and which I can count in one hand, are the ones that make a point everyday to show the seriousness with which they conduct their lives in relation to the firm grounds of honor, respect and empathy. Life is less hectic when you choose that which is most compatible with your core principles, with your fundamental beliefs. This is not to say that we should always stick to the same group of people, but rather to stick with people whose principles you can honor.

The more we know, the more we know we don't know

We all arrive at that part of life where we start realizing that the more we know and learn, we start seeing how little- how small and almost insignificant our realms of knowledge and understanding reach in relation to the vast infinity of life. So, I encourage myself every day to stop acting like I know a fair amount. Be malleable, flexible and teachable. The prison of life is often in our pride, at the edge of all of our understanding, where we think we know it all and the reality is that we never allow ourselves to grow more, to learn different and to be childlike in this aspect of our growth- with the humility and open disposition that is needed.
